Aitchison wants the viewer to focus on the interlocking shapes, the mixture of old and new and varying materials. Of course, the imposing clouds that hang heavy over the buildings cannot be ignored for they draw out the innate majesty of the buildings. The glass entrance acts as a lens through which we can view the past and yet exist in the present without being defined by what has gone before.
