Taken in Havana, Cuba, this man was sitting in the gutter with his trousers around his ankles. Aitchison didn’t know what he was doing or was about to do but knew he had to capture his face. They could not understand each other but with a smile and a show of the camera Aitchison made himself understood.
Peter manages to capture the humanity of this man's face in this portrait. The viewer is made to look deep into his eyes where one can at once see a man who is wise, sad and who has experienced many of the things that the world an throw at a person.
It has been said that the eyes are the window to the soul and the viewer is certainly forced to see beyond his exterior in order to try and glean an idea for who Che is as a person.
