Ian Mcdonald Grant

1904 – 1993

Born in Scotland before moving to Manchester via Paris, Ian Grant is a North West painter of considerable importance. A doyen of the Manchester Academy and its various off-shoots, he was instrumental in shaping the so-called Northern Art School, a fact recognised by him being given along with Alan Lowndes and Roger Hampson a full chapter in Peter Davies influential and groundbreaking book “The Northern School”.

A fine painter who had numerous exhibitions in Manchester and London, including with L S lowry, his work hangs in Manchester City Art Gallery.
